Message It is true that the turnbuckle would not break but it is also true that the collar would get crushed. While we are on the subject of design flaws vs installation error, the SPL arms could fall into either category.

First, the SPL arms were not really an SPL design. In fact, they were not even a Z32 design. They were made for the R32 and just happened to fit on a Z32 The problem was with the lack of an offset with the arm. That was the reason for the crushed collars. The turnbuckle would not break but there was not a lack of problems altogether.

If one believed they were truly an SPL design, it could be seen as a design flaw. The simple fact of the matter is that they were actually installation errors because they were never meant for the Z32. The band-aid fix of modified bump stops in the shocks was not a true fix because you lost performance in the overall suspension setup.

Kuah eventually stopped selling them several years ago. To be honest, this was the best thing he could have ever done for his customers. Selling the wrong part is never good business. I'm sure we can agree there. I'm actually surprised he has not made any arms of his own by now. He would just have to use the offset arms that Powertrix designed specifically for the Z32.

You've been around for a while and are a huge SPL supporter so I'm sure this is all old news to you but I felt it needed to be mentioned in case people didn't know why the arms are no longer around. I have nothing against SPL at all. They make great products. The only issue I have is that people erroneously think they are leaps and bounds better than Powertrix when, in reality, many of their products are built by the same company in Korea.

Never Play Leapfrog With A Unicorn!!!

Do yourself a favor and just worry about your own car. I don't see what everyone is so worried about anyway. If someone else wants to perform a modification that you believe will destroy the value, cheapen the Z32 or whatever you can't sit on your hands about, wouldn't that make your tastefully-modified, white bread Z32 more rare and valuable? -- BradZ (FL) on December 23, 2007 at 12:19 PM
